Bandari Student Scholarships
This project aims to enable 20 students to enroll into the Bandari Primary School and receive quality, free education.
Grant funding will assist us in meeting this goal by contributing towards the cost of enrolling and supporting an additional 20 students into the Bandari School, covering school fees, teachers’ salaries, materials for school students (school bags, school shoes and uniforms, stationery, school books), as well as student meals and any required medical expenses.
The Bandari school follows the Tanzanian primary school curriculum but offers some important differences to the state system:
– Class sizes are restricted to 20 students (in contrast to usual class sizes in Tanzania of over 100), to maximise teaching effectiveness and outcomes.
– Our school is an English Medium school, which means that our teachers teach as much as they can in English. In Tanzania primary school is taught in Swahili and secondary school is taught in English. The transition from primary to secondary can be very difficult because of this. We aim to give our students a head start, so that they will be fluent in English by the time they complete primary school.
– Many students are under-nourished and their families cannot afford health care. All Bandari students receive two meals per day at school. We keep an eye on student health and follow up on observed health problems.
