On-Water capacity for BBF Salmon Farming Campaign to Protect Tasmanian Ocean Habitats

An ocean-worthy craft, majority-funded by the Albert and Barbara Tucker Foundation, will enable the Bob Brown Foundation to significantly raise its impact in monitoring and taking direct action to oppose the toxic harmful impacts of Tasmania’s salmon farming industry. The small aluminium craft currently used by BBF is inadequate: it has limited capacity to convey our science and campaign teams in a range of conditions to examine the on-water and underwater impacts of the growing salmon industry.

The craft we have identified will cost $50,000 to secure and operate safely for the next year of the campaign, with a purchase price of $39,000, most of which will come from the Albert and Barbara Tucker Foundation grant. BBF would be the only equipped organisation paying close attention to, and raising the alarm about, the significant effects of the industry through direct observation/scientific monitoring, advocacy campaigns and media activities. The impact of salmon farming on the endangered Maugean Skate was noted by the Federal Minister in September 2023.
