Benalla Art Gallery and the Benalla Art Gallery Foundation have identified a strategic opportunity to support the promotion, development, and advancement of both the Gallery and the artists it serves. This project involves the installation of four 46-inch NEC digital screens within the Gallery’s entrance airlock. These screens will enable dynamic and timely recognition of donors and life members, while also promoting current and upcoming exhibitions, public programs, and the work of artists featured in the Benalla Art Gallery Store – including local artists and those supported through inclusive practices.

The Benalla Art Gallery Foundation, a registered charity, is focused on building its corpus and securing support for a $20 million Stage 2 redevelopment. As such, it does not currently have the capacity to fund infrastructure investment. Benalla Art Gallery operates with limited resources as a Council-owned entity, and due to rate-capping and a small population of 14,529, its 2025–26 budget cannot accommodate this capital project.

This funding request is also contextualised by the area’s socio-economic disadvantage. According to the 2021 SEIFA (Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas), Benalla is among the most disadvantaged LGA’s in Victoria. In this context, external support is essential for delivering projects that build community engagement, cultural participation, and institutional sustainability.

To deliver the project, we have engaged Leading Edge Installations, a specialist in education and retail screen technology, and a local builder to fabricate a custom screen frame. Atticus Design will assist with content design templates using Smart Sign cloud-based software.
