The Albert and Barbara Tucker Gallery 2025 Program

www.heide.com.au

The Albert and Barbara Tucker Gift to Heide, formalised in 2005, acknowledges the role that Heide founders John and Sunday Reed played in Albert Tucker’s career. The Heide years were for Tucker a period of great personal development and artistic growth—a place where a life in art was made possible. Along with paintings and drawings by Tucker dating from 1938 to 1995, the Tucker Gift includes works by his colleagues Joy Hester, Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, Danila Vassilieff and Yosl Bergner. These works of art are accompanied by a substantial visual and literary archive that continues to be essential to the generation of new scholarship on the art of Albert Tucker. Works from the Gift and the accompanying long-term Loan are exhibited each year in the purpose-built gallery at Heide, opened in 2006.

The Albert and Barbara Tucker Gallery program in 2025 includes three exhibitions which provide unique insights into themes and techniques in Tucker’s work, and give voice to an early career curator and a guest curator who will bring different perspectives to the program. The program includes two exhibitions that were deferred from the 2024 program due to the postponement of the Hair Pieces exhibition and the use of the Tucker Gallery for this major exhibition for several months in 2024. Heide is grateful to the trustees of the Tucker Foundation for accommodating this use of gallery space, which enabled the full realisation of the vision for Hair Pieces.
