Ongoing operation costs – food costs

Every year the Hepburn Wildlife Shelter spends close to $30 000 in animal food costs. This includes nearly $6 000 for species and age specific milk formulas for orphaned wildlife. Other food costs include hay, grain, specialist foods and supplements for birds, insects, fruits and vegetables and meat and rats (not live) for birds of prey. For example, 4 Wedge – Tailed eagles that are currently in rehabilitation cost $120 a week to feed.
