Every year the shelter must find $30 000 – $35 000 to but species specific milk formula for orphaned wildlife, specialist feed supplements, hay, oats and feed pellets. Fresh fruits, vegetables and meats are also needed. For example, the shelter currently has 5 wedge tailed Eagles in care that have struck windmills. Significant feather damage means that the eagles spend one to two years in care (they live for 50) as they must go through an entire moult to replace all of their flight feathers. A single eagle costs $30 a week to feed.
